Arrochar and Tarbet Gala

Despite its best attempts, even the weather couldn't spoil a brilliant gala day on Saturday 3rd August. The traditional parade from the station to the pier was this year led by Sir Malcolm Colquhoun of Luss, followed by the Helensburgh and District Pipe Band, the Gala Queen and Princess, 1st Arrochar Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, and a horde of Vikings!

Glasgow Vikings provided a focus of attraction with their authentic Viking encampment, demonstrating traditional crafts, weapons and food. However, in true Viking style, battles were inevitable! The saga relating how the Vikings pulled their boats across the isthmus from Arrochar to Tarbet just before the Battle of Largs in 1263 was recounted in unforgettable style!

Appropriately enough, the annual raft race was won by 1st Arrochar Scouts, with their Viking longship-themed raft - well done the Scouts!

Other attractions in the field included activities and attractions for kids and teenagers, Highland dancing, zumba, canoeing, bric-a-brac, home baking, a raffle and tombola, BBQ and the ever-popular beer tent.

Many thanks to the gala committee and all the other helpers for so much hard work before, during and after the event.
