Arrochar YOUTH Arrofrica Project

Arrochar YOUTH are organising a volunteering trip to Africa from the 6thto 21st of July 2014.

Working with KVDA to support their vision of poverty reduction and sustainable development, 12 teenagers from Arrochar, Succoth and Tarbet, plus 6 adult volunteers from the community and local GP's surgery, will be involved in a capacity building exercise to develop a community health infrastructure project, volunteering for the Maragoli Community Development Foundation (MACODEF) in Vihiga, Western Kenya.

The group will work primarily in the Vigetse Community Health Centre, carrying out tasks such as brick making, construction of the MACODEF resource centre, capacity building with community groups, teaching at primary and secondary schools, as well as home visits. Accommodation will be within the local community- sleeping on the floor, eating local food and immersing themselves in the cultural aspects of the host community.

Although anticipating a huge challenge, the group are currently fund-raising and looking forward to sharing their diverse skills with the Maragoli community, at the same time as increasing their own knowledge, skills and cultural awareness. They recognise this as "a fantastic opportunity .... to make new friends and work towards improving the life of others less fortunate than ourselves by helping our host families to become more secure and self sufficient."

The Arrochar YOUTH Arrofrica Project would appreciate any support you can offer. Funds raised through the donation process are for training, orientation, construction materials and project fees. To donate, go to: http://www.gofundme.com/2qu9m4
